Design and evaluation of new manufacturing process for blooster pin

Manish Deshmukh, Anshul Gangele and Deepak Kumar Gope

International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management, 2023, vol. 37, issue 5/6, 432-451

Abstract: Blooster pins or bell crank pins are used to hold the bell crank lever, in the gear box of automobiles, which alter the movement through 90° or 180°. This paper lays a revised design for manufacturing (DFM) plan for the production of the blooster pins, which is validated by using the MSA and statistical quality control techniques to evaluate the process performance. In order to reduce the failure risk, a new control plan as well as process failure mode and effect analysis (PFMEA) plan has been devised. The percentage gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GRR) of the measuring system for the new DFM process has been evaluated to be 21.20% implying the acceptability of the existing system for measurements of the new design and the process capability indexes have been calculated to be 1.39 and 0.85 respectively, which indicates the proposed DFM process of the blooster pin is has good capability.
