Study of various routing protocols in MANETs

Abstract: Routing is the act of moving information across an inter-network from source to a destination. Routing is to accomplish precisely the same thing to the casual observer. In ad hoc network each host node acts as specialised router. A routing protocol maintains a routing table to keep information about the neighbours. The taxonomy of routing protocols is a meaningful attempt to clarify the vat field of ad hoc routing protocols. There are three types of routing protocols: proactive, reactive and hierarchical. In this paper we provide an overview of a wide range of the existing routing protocols with a particular focus on their characteristics and functionality. Also, the comparison is provided based on the routing methodologies and information used to make routing decisions. Further, this study will help the researchers to get an overview of the existing protocols and suggest which protocols may perform better with respect to varying network scenarios.
