Some majorisation results in optimal manpower control

International Journal of Operational Research, 2013, vol. 16, issue 3, 287-303

Abstract: The notion of majorisation arises in various aspects of optimisation. In manpower control, a recurrent issue is the issue of obtaining an optimal control for the system since it is possible to have control that does not have a unique value. In this paper, we review some majorisation inequality results and use these results in the optimal control of Markovian manpower system. A Pareto balance control and approximate control are established. A procedure for using a majorisation-minimisation algorithm to optimise a control cost function is highlighted.
