Optimising TransMilenio BRT system operation: a mathematical model

Francisco J. Peña, Antonio Jiménez-Martín and Alfonso Mateos

International Journal of Operational Research, 2016, vol. 25, issue 4, 416-436

Abstract: In this paper we review the proposals in the literature to optimise bus rapid transit (BRT) system operation, which are based on bus scheduling and focused on varying the times between each bus departure of the different bus routes. We propose a mathematical model that adapts elements of the above proposals and incorporates novel elements accounting for the features of TransMilenio, which is Bogotá's most important mass transportation system and one of the biggest BRT systems in the world.
