Abstract:
The challenges such as environmental degradation, diminishing natural resources, health issues, etc. posed by many of the existing manufacturing practices act as a fertile ground for evolving newer techniques which are bereft of such drawbacks. Sustainable manufacturing is the antithesis to the problems inherent to the traditional manufacturing practices. Increasing social, economic and environmental challenges, typically associated with the traditional manufacturing processes can be addressed through sustainable practices. However, implementation of sustainable manufacturing system (SMS) within an industrial setup is a formidable task because of the existence of several multidimensional barriers associated with it. Hence, a holistic study of the manufacturing system is essential to evolve strategies for overcoming these barriers. The current study analyses these barriers using graph theoretic approach (GTA).
