RPA software package selection for a reverse supply chain organisation - a fuzzy MCDM approach

Abstract:
Effective implementation of robotic process automation (RPA) software packages has become a significant technological concern in business process automation projects. For handling repetitive tasks involving information flows, RPA can be regarded as a potential solution. In the case of supply chain organisations, appropriate management of information flow is as vital as that of appropriate product flow. RPA software bots can be developed and deployed to manage such information flows. However, the selection of an appropriate RPA software is a necessary process. The RPA software selection can be formulated as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. This article presents an MCDM approach using fuzzy simplified pivot pairwise relative criteria importance assessment (F-S-PIPRECIA) and fuzzy technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (F-TOPSIS). F-S-PIPRECIA method is utilised to obtain the weights of selection criteria, and F-TOPSIS is utilised to get the final ranking of RPA software packages for the reverse supply chain organisation. The presented MCDM approach aims to help industrial decision-makers to select an appropriate RPA software package with systematic steps.
