Supplier relationship management capability in global supply management

Katrina Lintukangas

International Journal of Procurement Management, 2011, vol. 4, issue 1, 1-19

Abstract: This study examines the elements of supplier relationship management (SRM) capability. The growing complexity of global supply chains and networks requires new skills and knowledge within the supply management function. By identifying and developing SRM capabilities firms can improve their supply management performance in global supply chains. The study is based on survey data collected from 100 Finnish firms. The results of the study indicate that the firms with organisational capability to manage supplier relationships: 1) have the ability to coordinate their supply chains effectively; 2) are committed to develop their relationships in collaboration with suppliers; 3) aim at trustful relations; 4) communicate actively with their suppliers; 5) follow valid supply processes.
