International Journal of Procurement Management, 2016, vol. 9, issue 6, 637-658

Abstract: The manufacturing organisations realised the importance of Supplier Development (SD) for establishing and maintaining competitive advantage. The objective of this study is to develop an instrument/questionnaire to assess the SD benefits, SD criteria and SD activities with their level of importance. This paper develops an instrument or questionnaire based on generally accepted principle to assess SD benefits, SD criteria and SD activities through the pilot responses collected from thirty organisations. The developed instrument or questionnaire is tested for parameters like reliability, normality, validity and it was found to be satisfactory. This instrument or questionnaire can be used by industry practitioners to assess the SD benefits, SD criteria and SD activities before actually entering to the SD activities.
