A project selection, prioritisation and classification approach for organisations managing continuous improvement (CI)

Abstract: Industries are continuously facing fierce competition and the challenge of meeting increasing quality demands at economic costs. The rate of quality improvement and the effectiveness of project management are important factors that determine the survival of any organisation. Project management includes the selection, prioritisation, classification and execution of continuous improvement (CI) projects. There are several cases of failure in implementing improvements resulting in tremendous waste of energy, resources, and, in some cases, the closure of facilities. As such, studies on proper selection, prioritisation and classification of improvement projects are worth investigating. The objective of this paper is to investigate the issue of project selection, prioritisation and classification. It presents a model that summarises sources of projects and the guidelines that describe the way ideas can be filtered, to select the proper projects of highest priority at a certain time. Also, it presents a high-level integrated framework for CI, project selection, prioritisation and other business blocks.
