Abstract: The reduction of waste is essential in the present scenario and to survive in the competitive market, the appropriate concept has been taken as lean. A hybrid or synergistic approach will be appreciable for which TRIZ (theory to resolve inventive problems), a Russian concept, has been utilised for arrival at the solution to improve the productivity. In general, the result obtained by the application of synergistic concepts will give more beneficiary than that of the individual concepts. To apply the concept TRIZ with lean, case studies have been taken in a machine shop and the paper has been concentrated in the processes involved. Lean has been applied to find and narrow down the problems and TRIZ has been applied to solve the contradictions and better results were obtained.
