Evaluating manufacturing performance through strategic total productive maintenance implementation in a food processing industry

Abstract: The ever changing industrial requirements and severe competition have been putting enormous pressures on organisations to increase their manufacturing efficiency by focusing on new innovative and consistent improvements initiatives. Thus various organisations have envisaged to adopt newly discovered tools and processes like total productive maintenance (TPM), total quality management (TQM), business process reengineering (BPR), just-in-time (JIT), Six Sigma, supply chain management (SCM), lean enterprise, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and so on. The detailed case study on TPM implementation in a food processing industry has been undertaken in the present research work to evaluate the exploits of TPM implementation. This study reveals the exploits of Indian entrepreneurs with TPM practices and highlights the contributions of TPM in realising the overall organisation's goals and objectives. The results indicated that TPM is a strong contributor to an organisation competitiveness and manufacturing performance.
