The multivariate discriminant data analysis (MDA) technique was used to determine the significance and classification of the groups of selected variables within the group of 75 SMEs that reported their financial statements at the Cartagena Chamber of Commerce for the years 2015 and 2018. The findings found contrast with the sustained good performance for the analysis period of the financial indicators, gross margin (IF1), operating margin (IF2) and net margin (IF3) and productivity, operating profit ratio and added value (IP2), added value ratio and working capital (IP4) and operating profit ratio and working capital (IP5). This is evidenced by the marking out and contribution of the tourist lodging sector in the business economic dynamics of the City of Cartagena.
