Non-traditional optimisation approaches for economic design of X control chart

Abstract:
Control charts are extensively utilised in the manufacturing industry for monitoring and controlling production strategies. Their design involves the selection of three parameters namely, the sample size (n), the sampling interval (h) and the width of the control limit (k). In the case of economic design, these three design parameters are selected in such a way that, the overall cost of controlling the process is the least. Based on the continuity of industrial processes, in this research, two-loss cost models are being considered. The loss costs for these two models are minimised using genetic algorithm (GA) and simulated annealing (SA) optimisation techniques. Further, for better clarity of work, a numerical example has been considered and solved using these two optimisation techniques. The results of which are found to be better than the earlier published results.
