Productivity analysis of education and research fields in universities of medical sciences: a case study of Iran

Abstract: The present study aimed to assess the productivity of Urmia Medical Sciences University (UMSU) in the fields of education and research. In this descriptive-analytical study, changes in the total factor productivity of UMSU in the fields of education and research were analysed using data envelopment analysis technique during 2011-2017 by Deap2.1 software. Mean changes in the total factor productivity of production in the field of education were calculated to be 1.026, representing an increase in the productivity growth of 2.6% during the study period. Furthermore, the mean of total factor productivity in the research sector equalled 1.071, indicating productivity growth at a rate of 7.1%. In general, the total factor productivity of faculties covered by university in the research and education fields has increased. The major causes for this increase were total technical efficiency and managerial efficiency changes in the research and education sectors, respectively.
