Return on investment for small businesses that obtain ISO 9001:2015 certification

LeAnna Hyer and Herman Tang

International Journal of Productivity and Quality Management, 2024, vol. 41, issue 4, 553-568

Abstract: ISO 9001:2015 is an internationally recognised standard for identifying a quality managed manufacturing system. Many registrars state one can expect to have better efficiency and less waste and scrap when one uses an ISO 9001:2015-certified system. However, they do not specify what gains a company would see to their bottom line. This research examines the return on investment for acquiring a third-party, quality management system, with special attention given to the case of small businesses that do not have a specified budget to procure and maintain certification.
