International Journal of Productivity and Quality Management, 2024, vol. 42, issue 2, 133-152

Abstract: The present study is influenced by the rapidly changing scenario of manufacturing SMEs, which are considered to the backbone of the economy of any country. As per the figures of economic report of India in year 2018, contribution of SMEs is of 17% of the gross domestic product (GDP). These figures reveal the poor performance of manufacturing SMEs. The main cause identified for the poor performance of SMEs in India is the higher level of scrap and higher wastage of available resources. To remain competitive in the present unstable and turbulent industrial environment, industrial organisations need to keep themselves and their systems updated in order to respond according to the market needs.
