Optimal reliability of power capacities in the phase of preparation and design

Smajo Bisanovic and Hilmo Sehovic

International Journal of Reliability and Safety, 2008, vol. 2, issue 4, 340-356

Abstract: This paper presents the problem of optimal reliability achievement of power capacities through a formalised and approximated description of the influence factors that must be recognised in the phase of preparation and design. The paper lays emphasis on the questions of optimal reliability in the context of the technological scheme design, selection of component parameters, their reliability, capability and costs. The form and structure of the scheme power plant depend on rational distribution of costs among different ways to achieve reliability in the design phase. Comparison of different ways allows the determination of optimum types and characteristics of the components with argumentation of demands that should satisfy their reliability indices. In the quantification of the reliability analysis, the importance measure of components should be derived to identify where the contributions to the risk are coming from and where there may be weaknesses in the design or operation of the switchgear.
