Applying environmental performance indices towards an objective measure of sustainability in the Levant

International Journal of Sustainable Development, 2008, vol. 11, issue 1, 61-73
Abstract:
An 'Environmental Diamond' for the Levant is proposed, similar to the World Bank's 'Development Diamond'. It would serve as a framework for evaluating ecosystem risk for the countries in the Jordan Basin that are currently facing a sustainability crisis. The approach followed by this paper was based on previous work carried out in East Asia. The result is an integrative index that reveals a general picture without concealing specific aspects of environmental quality.
