Subprime crisis and its effect on sustainability of profits in selected Slovenian banks

Igor Stubelj and Primoz Dolenc

International Journal of Sustainable Economy, 2009, vol. 1, issue 3, 215-226

Abstract: The aim of this research was to look briefly on the effects of the latest financial crisis in Slovenia. We were interested mostly in banks' results in terms of return on financial/trading assets, return on equity (ROE) and return on assets (ROA) and possible significant changes that might be caused due to financial crises in 2007. We have found that profits from trading portfolio have not changed significantly in 2007 (compared to 2005 and 2006), but ROE and ROA surprisingly increased in 2007. Although these results were unexpected, we further noticed that the share of profits from trading portfolio in net income significantly decreased in 2007.
