 Open innovation in Russia: productivity and industry effectDaria Podmetina, Irina Savitskaya and Juha Väätänen International Journal of Transitions and Innovation Systems, 2012, vol. 2, issue 2, 151-168 Abstract: Innovation and R%D are important for productivity and competitiveness. Hence, open innovation framework still lacks empirical evidence on how openness influences the productivity. Companies from emerging economies need to boost their innovation output in order to increase the competitiveness and productivity to stand the turbulent environment. To fill in the existing research gap, this paper analyses the differences in productivity in companies implementing open innovation practices, following traditional approach to innovation and combining these strategies. The results of the analysis show the significant positive effect of open innovation implementation on productivity: companies with inbound and outbound open innovation have the highest productivity and the highest productivity growth.
