Entrepreneurship curriculum practice in Malaysian universities: successes and challenges

Abstract: This paper explores commitments of the Malaysian government towards promoting entrepreneurship activity among the university graduates and how that helps in reducing the issue of unemployment. Essentially, academic journals and other relevant documents on the successes and challenges of implementing entrepreneurship programs in Malaysian universities were reviewed. Again, secondary data was also obtained from the World Development Indicator (2017) on entrepreneurship and graduate unemployment (GU) in the country to test the relationship between the two variables. Entrepreneurship activities were measured using variables such as the new businesses registered, new business density, and ease of doing business all as independent variables; whereas GU is the dependent variable. Eviews 10.5 software was used to analyse the data using the Ordinary Least Square model. Findings from the review reveal that the Malaysian universities have achieved several successes in implementing the program; yet the rate of unemployment among the graduates is quite alarming.
