Exploring espoused competencies from management teachers for sustainability of Indian business schools

Abstract: The growth and development of management education in India is challenged by various factors. This research paper explores espoused competencies from management teachers in leading Indian business schools. Required professional and personal competencies of teachers were identified by systematic literature review, then experience survey was used to adapt them for management teaching, and primary data was collected through questionnaire, on how frequently these competencies are being practiced by the management teachers in different categories of B-Schools in National Capital Region, Delhi in India. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), descriptive statistics and Analysis of Variance were used to analyse the data. Results show that most practiced competencies by management teachers are related to knowledge, intelligence and creativity and category of business schools differ significantly on all the three identified factors based on personal competencies. Business schools of state universities were found low on average score on almost all explored competency factors.
