World Review of Entrepreneurship, Management and Sustainable Development, 2022, vol. 18, issue 1/2, 7-22

Abstract: The 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda sets out a universal action plan for achieving sustainable development in a balanced way and seeks to promote human rights of all people, for all sections of society, at all ages, with a specific focus on the most vulnerable section, i.e., older people. The segment of older people in India has been increasing at a high rate lately, and this pattern will be the same in the coming years. The objective of this study is to examine the role of active ageing in achieving social sustainability of older people. For the conceptual framework of the study, two key components of social sustainability, i.e., well-being and social justice, has been taken into consideration. Data is collected from elderly respondents in residential colonies of NCR, India, through semi-structured interviews. The analysis shows social sustainability is the natural outcome of the various engagements of the active aged individuals.
