Steel

Ecaterina Patilea

Conjunctura economiei mondiale / World Economic Studies, 2011

Abstract: The article presents the global steel market evolution in 2010 and its prospects for 2011. The paper analyses production, consumption, trade and prices of steel at global level and in major regions and countries worldwide. After being hit hard by the economic downturn that started in late 2008 which led to the sharp decline in demand for steel products, the steel market has rebounded in 2010 by nearly 11% in consumption of steel products. Steel prices have also registered an upward trend that continued in 2011. An important role in this evolution of the global market is played by China, the biggest steel producing and consuming country.
