GREAT BRITAIN: A NEW AND MODERN INDUSTRIAL STRATEGY POST BREXIT

Virginia Campeanu

Euroinfo, 2017, vol. 1, issue 1, 3-10

Abstract: Great Britain has intensified preparations to leave the European Union and the European Single market. Recently, it was launched a "Plan for Britain", that reveals the government’s priorities in the Brexit negotiations with the EU. However, as a vital part of the Plan for Britain, in the area of economic development was launched the Green Paper for a modern Industrial Strategy. Such a strategy seems to be very necessary as Britain’s departure from the EU threatens to “undermine” the financial services sector, which has long been a pillar of the economy. This article presents a synthesis and a qualitative analysis of the Industrial Strategy, revealing the Strategy’s base building, the driving factors to stability and predictability of the Britain’s economy as well as the new guidelines and strategic lines of action. All these elements might constitute lessons of good practice for policy makers in Romania. The analysis reveals strategic particularities: strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities of industrial development in the UK and the pillars that will support the upgrades and the development of the industry.
