THE EUROPEAN UNION STRATEGY ON REDUCING GREENHOUSE GASES EMISSIONS FROM THE TRANSPORT SECTOR

Abstract:
The pace of the transition to a low carbon economy has been sped up lately while the European Union wants to become a world leader in combating climate change. In this context, reducing emissions from the transport sector represents an essential element in the strategy for the sustainable development of the society.The following paper aims to assess and analyze the main elements of the European Union's policy concerning the transition to a transport with low carbon emissions, including the increase of the efficiency of the transport system, accelerating the use of low-emission alternative energy or switching to zero-emission vehicles. Also, in this paper there will be assessed the degree of achievement of the objective of the share of energy from renewable sources in transport by the Member States of the European Union.
