Abstract: Research and innovation represent together one of the engines of the economy. Scientific discoveries determine the development of new products and services, stimulating economic growth and creating new jobs. This paper aims to analyze the importance of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Program in the development of research and innovation in the European Union. The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Program (MSCA), launched in 1996, has successfully promoted research excellence and worldwide mobility for two decades. Currently MSCA is part of “Horizon 2020”, the most ample research and innovation programme of the European Union. From 1996 to 2014, the MSCA has benefited from a budget of almost 8 billion euros and the participation of 70,000 researchers. For the period 2014-2020 the budget allotted to the MSCA through the “Horizon 2020”, is 6.16 billion euros for a number of 65,000 researchers.
