THE CONCLUSIONS OF JUNE 2017 EUROPEAN COUNCIL MEETING

Petre Prisecaru

Euroinfo, 2017, vol. 1, issue 7-8, 43-56

Abstract: The article presents in a more extensive form the conclusions of the last summit of European Council, focused on the most important matters confronting EU today. The European Council has concentrated at its June summit on protecting Europe and its citizens through effective measures to fight terrorism and develop its common security and defence, some already included in the Global Strategy of EU. The debates have concentrated also on objectives such as: to ensure EU’s economic development, its competitiveness and job creation in a globalised world, to tackle migration and to promote European values and interests, support a rules-based multilateral trade system and mobilise partners for a positive climate policy. EU will help shape globalisation in order to reap the benefits of open markets while protecting against unfair competition practices and promoting the social, environmental, health and consumer standards which are essential to the European way of life.
