 THE TRADE OF ESTONIA UNDER THE RUSSIAN IMPORT BAN IMPOSED TO THE MEMBER STATES OF THE EUROPEAN UNIONEuroinfo, 2018, vol. 2, issue 11-12, 23-34 Abstract: The European Union imposed economic sanctions on the Russian Federation in 2014, after the crisis of Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea. The Russian import ban on European agri-food products was imposed soon after, as a retaliation measure against the sanctions imposed by the European Union. Some experts have advanced the idea that among the most affected Member States were the Baltic countries - Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania - former Soviet republics located in the geographical proximity of Russia.Our article analyzes the case of Estonia, considered the most successful new member of the European Union in the last years from an economic point of view. In order to reveal the concrete economic effects of the Russian import ban on Estonia, our analysis refers to the characteristics and economic development of Estonia, bilateral trade Estonia-Russian Federation, Estonia's foreign trade and their determinants in the pre- and post - economic sanctions (2013-2017).
