THE IMPACT OF TOURISM ON THE ECONOMY OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

Abstract:
After eight years of uninterrupted growth in terms of international tourists arrivals, international tourism was established as a sector of world economy in continuous development. The European Union brings together some of the most important tourist destinations at international level, being itself a strong emitter market.The purpose of this article is to briefly highlight and analyze the economic impact of tourism on the EU and its Member States, starting from well-established indicators. The results of this analysis confirm the EU leading position on the international market and the role of the tourism sector for the Community economy.
