Abstract:
The European Semester provides a framework for the coordination of economic policies across the European Union. The European Semester aims to monitor, prevent, and correct problematic economic trends that could weaken national economies or negatively affect the EU. The most recent European Semester (June 2019) presents a set of country-specific recommendations focused on what can realistically be achieved over the next 12-18 months. Our paper presents a synthesis of the Commission’s Recommendations on the economic policies areas and Member States, with some common features but also country-specific, in the context of the overall progress of economic development and reforms. The Recommendations adapt the priorities identified at EU level to the national level.
