RECENT TRENDS IN GLOBAL FDI INFLOWS AND THEIR INFLUENCING FACTORS

Dorina Clichici

Euroinfo, 2019, vol. 3, issue 8, 17-24

Abstract: In 2018, foreign direct investments (FDI) inflows declined worldwide for the third consecutive year. The inward-looking economic policies of the countries, the unilateralism in trade policies, the long process of replacing the North American Free Trade Agreement with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, the economic arrangements between the United Kingdom and the European Union, have all adversely affected not only the pace of global economic growth and international trade, but also investment decisions of multinational corporations (MNEs) over the last three years. The increase of trade barriers and regulatory realignments, in the context of these negotiations, continues to reduce the efficiency of global production and adversely affect the flows of FDI. The article presents recent trends of global FDI inflows and by groups of economies, and, analyse the determinants that have stood at the basis of the contraction of the MNEs investment activity.
