Abstract:
Sustainable agriculture represents one of the key objectives of the reformed Common Agricultural Policy, while being an important component in achieving the strategic goals of the current Green Deal. Consequently, this paper aims to analyse the evolution of the instrument of Direct Payments and its contribution to support sustainable agriculture in the EU, using a comparative analysis of the existing situation in the Member States. The objective of our research is to highlight the progress made for the three types of mandatory "green" payments: crop diversification; maintenance of permanent grasslands and areas of ecological interest (EFA). In the final part of the article we will highlight some funding opportunities for sustainable agriculture in EU under Green Deal.
