Euroinfo, 2022, vol. 6, issue 3, 61-76

Abstract: The crisis generated by the COVID-19 virus has dramatically impacted global economic and social life. In this context, there are countries that managed better the crisis and took effective measures for a quick recovering of the economies as much as possible, to attain the performance level of 2019. The analysis of this study refers to the situation in Romania comparing with other European countries, especially member states of the European Union, in terms of attitude, mentality and determination of the population to take concrete steps on the way to economic and social recovery, as well as the response given by the decision-makers at governmental level to come up with real measures to remove the adverse effects generated of pandemic crisis. This comparative analysis of the situation, at the level of Romania and at the level of the EU, underlines the answer to the question: how prepared was the Romanian economy and society to come up with effective solutions to overcome the crisis? The screening of the situation in Romania is a starting point for the formulation of real decisions to increase productivity and boost competitiveness.
