CAP STRATEGIC PLANS – A TOOL FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND FOOD SECURITY IN EU

Andreea - Emanuela Drăgoi

Euroinfo, 2022, vol. 6, issue 4, 3-15

Abstract: The new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) proposes a series of objectives that allow Member States to design their CAP Strategic Plans in such a way as to contribute to increasing the resilience of rural areas by providing support for agricultural production and food security, but without forfeit their climate and environmental ambitions, given the danger of the current climate changes for EU’scrops and livestock sector. This article highlights how CAP can contribute to increasing the resilience of rural areas by analyzing some key aspects: support for farmers' income, support for the competitiveness of European agriculture, support for employment growth in rural areas and the fulfillment of climate and environmental objectives. For this purpose, some of the recently approved CAP Strategic Plans and the distribution of funds between the two pillars (Pillar I – agriculture and markets and Pillar II – rural development) will be analyzed using a comparative approach for the selected Member States.
