TELEWORK DURING THE PANDEMIC IN EU COUNTRIES. POSTPANDEMIC IMPLICATIONS

Cristina Leovaridis

Euroinfo, 2022, vol. 6, issue 4, 34-45

Abstract: The present paper aims to identify the main characteristics of telework in EU countries during the pandemic period, as well as the consequences that the extent of telework among European employees during the pandemic has on the expectations they have of their workplace, currently, in the post-pandemic period. After a brief conceptual delimitation of the key term in the specialized literature, the paper continues with a secondary analysis of statistical data, from European and national studies and reports conducted by both official institutions and private research institutes, regarding telework in the pandemic in European countries and employees' perception of its effects. The widespread practice of telework at European level has implications for the expectations that employees have of the post-pandemic workplace:in 2022, new workplace behaviors and trends emerge among employees, such as The Great Resignation, and later The Quiet Quitting. In the future, workplace flexibility will remain one of the essential requirements of European employees both in their current workplace and in a potential new workplace.
