Alina-Cerasela Avram and Mariana-Camelia Țăranu

Euroinfo, 2024, vol. 8, issue 1, 37-50

Abstract: Circular economy is one of the most popular concepts, targeting academia, the private sector, decision-makers and citizens. The transition from the linear to the circular economy comes with a multitude of implications and although in theory, the circular economy involves a wide range of advantages, the resistance to change is still high. This article shows the trends in circular economy research at an international level, highlighting the main funding bodies and scientific output by affiliation and country. The research consists in a bibliometric analysis of scientific articles from Web of Science database that focused on the circular economy up to 2024. A total of 615 articles were analyzed, and the results were interpreted using the specialized software VosViewer. The research results are useful for national authorities and companies that can identify the areas of interest in international research and can estimate what will be the development directions of the most important states of the world in this field.
