Abstract:
The Internal market and the competition policy are two central pillars ofEuropean integration process. The serious problems caused by the financial and economiccrisis in the EU have led the European Commission to identify and take appropriate measuresto reboost the economy, stimulate investment and innovation, create jobs, and thus to restorethe confidence of member countries’ citizens in the European project. To achieve theseobjectives it is essential to maintain the integrity, functionality and competitive nature of thesingle market through enforcing EU antitrust law by the competent authorities at Europeanand national level. This article presents the priorities for enforcing EU antitrust law, relatedwith the dynamic and complex changes of the economic environment in Europe and globally,as well as the important contribution of the enforcement of antitrust law by the EuropeanCommission for achieving the objectives regarding some strategic sectors of the EU economy.
