New dimensions in studying crisis indicators

Abstract: Building new theories in the field of crisis prevention and management is neither an easy nor every time feasible task. Regular failures prove that science is necessary and needed to explain why crisis form and burst but fails to anticipate such incidents. Systematically reviewing the specific literature, this article investigates various perspectives on crisis anticipation and resolution, showing that choosing relevant indicators for preventing security crisis is a tenuous activity that must work with scientific principles and a solid methodology. After underlying the relevance of sound indicators in preventing mechanisms, this paper asses that the future belongs to those who creatively and foreseeable succeed in identifying the perfect combination between various crisis indicators in order to signal relevant changes in the security environment, timely enough to allow decision makers to adopt necessary measures.
