Child protection with parents leave to work abroad

Impact of Socio-economic and Technological Transformations at National, European and International Level (ISETT), 2015, vol. 6

Abstract: According to the law, the child is being raised by his parents. They shall exercise parental authority in respect of the person and the child's property. Currently, there are numerous situations where the parents are going to work abroad, while in Romania, children are left in the care of others. This situation has led to the regulation of the conditions for the protection of children whose parents are work abroad. Regulation of temporary delegation of parental authority to a person in the enlarged family in provides effective protection of the child left away from his parents. To this end, public social welfare services are required to be involved in choosing the person who will take care of the child, and the Board of Trustees is to verify compliance with the best interests of the child. The regulation, however, is incomplete, as the delegation of parental authority is limited to a period of one year and after its passage the legislator has ommited to predict how it will protect the child whose parents are not returning to the country.
