Abstract:
The article proposes an exploration of the significance associated with the concept of headship within the larger context of the roles that emerge in organizaţions. In order to avoid biased decisions in favour of one definition or another, I conduct a concise comparative analysis of the General Systems Theory and the Processual-Organic Theory. From choosing the processual system of reference derives the distinction between the roles of headman, leader, administrator, manager and evaluator. The degree in which the role of headman is assumed in a functional fashion, using scientific benchmarks, is tested by means of a sociological inquiry based on a questionnaire. Processing and interpreting data have revealed a modest appetite and an average competence in using benchmarks from the social sciences in the everyday activities of organizations
