Abstract:
China`s spectacular economic growth in the past decades imposed a change in the principles governing its relations with the neighboring countries and the main global players, especially after 2010 when the “Red Dragon†become the second largest economy in the world, at the expense of Japan. To maintain the current ranking or even to become the world economic leader, China has to join its actions on several levels (economic, military, political, etc.) to toss out the limitations of Deng Xiaoping’s †doctrine†of "keeping a low profile†. Analyzing the literature, the statistical data and the Chinese strategies designed to protect and promote the national interests, our paper aims at identifying and assessing the main pillars that support China`s assertiveness towards the great regional and global powers.
