Abstract:
This study aims to examine the effect of technology orientation (TO) on firm performance (FP) of export-oriented SMEs in Sri Lanka, focusing particularly on mediation by firm innovativeness (FI). Employing a quantitative approach, data was drawn from a sample of 126 export SMEs using a structured online survey and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The findings revealed that TO positively influences FP, and FI was a significant mediator in this relationship. The findings contribute to existing knowledge by re-validating a multidimensional TO scale, strengthening its reliability and application in future studies. The study integrates the resource-based view (RBV) and learning theory to understand the relationships between TO, FI, and FP. The study highlights the importance of fostering a technology and innovation-oriented culture for export-oriented SMEs to enhance performance and competitiveness. This study's insights are particularly valuable for policymakers, business leaders, and SMEs aiming to optimize performance through technology-driven innovation strategies.
