Abstract:
This editorial addresses the epidemiological and social imperatives associated with observing a public health outbreak. Using population behaviors as a determinant of the extent to which events progress to alter populations, geographic regions, or the globe, the author builds on his worldwide expertise in epidemiology and quality of healthcare services to propose the crucial need of having a shared global responsibility. While the impetus of this article is the COVID-19 pandemic, the generic predisposing factors and past public health outbreaks are used to place the ravages of the present pandemic into a framework of interpretation as well as for prediction of future events and associated social and public health preparedness. Without the use of statistics and analytic methods of inquiry, the author addresses the core aspects of fear and hope all populations and societies have to balance to understand, accept, and co-exist with events that befall upon them and encroach on their existing lifestyle and quality of life expectations.
