Abstract: This paper aims at analysing the role of education in economic growth, focusing on the case of Turkey using exogenous and endogenous technology models. We show, first of all, that education plays an important role in determining the output per worker. Secondly, we show that depending on the way in which technology is characterised, the level of education is a significant factor in assessing the level of development. Finally, it is shown that, in addition to human capital, transfer of technology also plays an important role in the determination of output per worker and, hence, the level of development.
