Abstract:
Global modeling is not so different from other sorts of OR/SA. Good modeling, global or otherwise, requires design as well as engineering. Modelers, global or otherwise, are generally better engineers than designers---perhaps the nature of their work destroys their design perspective. In any case it is hard to get an interesting, functional product out of a modeler without outside guidance. Given enough rope, global modelers (and modelers in general) will hang themselves in a snarl of detail and technicality. Only with a client who knew what he wanted and who took an active role in project design was this problem avoided.
