Abstract: This paper attempts to analyze, using linear programming techniques, production planning of S.A. Silva & Sons, Ltd., the largest processor of coconuts in Sri Lanka. This was the first attempt of its kind to use linear programming in production planning in Sri Lanka. Thus the major objective was to develop a model useful in acquainting the management with linear programming methods, data requirements, and total systems analysis, while demonstrating the usefulness of the model. This study generated several rules of thumb for maximizing profits.
