Abstract: Computerized production and inventory management systems, such as MRP (Material Requirements Planning), are being widely used in manufacturing operations today. Increased usage of computerized systems is most likely to continue due to further sophistication and reduced costs of information processing technology. However, implementation of computerized systems, such as MRP, has not been an easy task. Implementation, in general, of any system and specifically of computerized systems, involves a variety of complex technical as well as behavioral problems. There is a vast amount of literature available (see the reference section) that identifies these problems, and possible solutions, relative to the implementation pitfalls, therefore this paper will not go into the detail of listing problems. However, based upon a case study, an implementation procedure is presented which was successful in reducing implementation roadblocks for the company involved in the case study.
