Abstract:
A couple of the reactions that I've received regarding my first two columns imply that OR/MS education (and by extension, the OR/MS profession) has become too preoccupied with optimization and too disinterested in modeling. Both of the individuals making the criticisms hark back (as I do) to the early OR/MS texts and conclude that these “golden oldies” have it all over the newer texts.
