Interfaces, 1982, vol. 12, issue 4, 81-91
Abstract:
This paper presents conclusions drawn from personal experience in four different management roles: line, staff, executive, and top-management consultant. Field-developed methods for increasing the value received from investment in staff expertise are presented. Crucial to effective use of these methods is acceptance of a specific perspective on the nature of the continuing exchange contract between each pair of the three types of management: line, staff, and executive.
